For the Dork inclined

I've been debating creating my own AquaController type device since I set up my tank. I did some poking around at work today, and it seems someone might have already done so. This setup uses a Linksys wrt54g wireless router as the controller with a custom firmware on it. Linux + Reef = dork paradise!

Lots of people have started them. Bottom lines is it's hundreds hours of work and unless you just enjoy that then you can get something that does it for under a few hundred. Working for under minimum wage is not that cool!

You're right. We should probably avoid a learning opportunity, and anything that would be difficult for that matter, when we could just buy something that is commercially available.

If you want to attempt it for learning purposes go ahead. I think it's great. I was simply pointing out to realize that you probably won't save any money and it will truly be a labor of love and take an extreme amount of dedication to see it through. Do searchs on here and RC to get you started. Many have done or at least started these in the past take advantage and learn from them!
