Flat Worm Treatment

Hi all.. I've had flatworms for a while now and thought I'd share my results. I originally got a free sample (from the LFS at Garden Ridge) of some blue vet flatworm treatment. He was nice enough to put the requisite number of drops in a baggie. I didn't notice any notable results. So, I went and bought my own bottle - used triple the dose - no real visible results, but over the next few days I noticed I didn't really see any worms so ok. Then, about 2 or 3 months later I had to do the treatment again, same results - didn't notice anything during the treatment, but saw fewer worms. Well, not 2 or 3 months later, there were plenty-o-worm in the tank. I took some advice and created a nifty flat worm vac using a mesh bag in the sump, some ridgid air tube and some flex tube. Just start a little siphon and viola instant vac. It's kinda fun to vaccume them up, too. After 3 days of sucking i thought it was time to treat the tank. I had my carbon all bagged up and rinsed off ready to go. This time I forked out the cash for a bottle of Salifert Exit. I put in the maximum dosage, based on my experience with the Blue Vet, and went to cook dinner. When I came back, I had a snow globe of red dead flat worms!

Conclusion - Salifert works way good and the Blue Vet, not so much...

oh, and so far all inhabitants are living... Well, all but the little stinkers!

How is your tank doing now? Last year, I had these things in plague proportions in my tank and did the salifert treatment. I tried to get some of them out before I did the treatment, but there were just so many. My tank suffered from the treatment. I lost I think one or two corals and everything looked really bad for a while. There were a few flatworms that survived. I hear once they've been exposed to the treatment and live through it they are immune so I sucked them out with a turkey baster. I am happy to say, I haven't seen any since. They are a pain to deal with I tell you. I wouldn't wish them on anyones tank.
