i just purchased a flame angel and a juvenile emperor angel and i was curious how they would fare together in a 75g tank? before someone gets angry about putting the emperor in that small of a tank, i plan on upgrading the tank to a larger one in about a year, and it's only about 1 1/2" long right now. anyways, ive heard large angels and dwarfs might be compatable so i was wondering what you think. i didnt know if it was for the adult large angels or what. thanks for the help!

ps - they are in seperate tanks. the emperor is in the display and the flame is in the jawfish tank :D

Total trip you posted this. I'm actually going through the process of removing my Flagfin due to the agression shown by the juvenile Imperator Angel I added two weeks ago.

Case in point:

The Flagfin is almost full grown and very spunky. They say if you're going to try two angels together, try to add the larger breed angel after the smaller, tank-established angel. Also, they say Angels will sometimes get along if they're different species and don't have the same body shape or color, but every fish has it's own personality.

Since you're mixing a Dwarf Angel and a Large Angel it may work, but it appears medium and large angels do not mix.

is the flagfin a large angel as well? i didnt know there was anything but dwarf and large. anyways, the emperor is in the larger tank so i would be adding the flame after it. i guess i could swap the two for a few weeks and let the flame get used to the tank, then add the emperor then.

any more thoughts? would love to hear them all!

I kept an emperor and a coral beauty together for awhile. It's been a while since I did the research, but I didn't think there was normally a problem between dwarf and large angels. Once we get our 240 setup, I intend to have a 2-3 dwarfs and an emperor. The emperor will be the last one added, but that's because I'm going to be highly selective with my purchase, an extended QT time, and I expect him to be king of the tank. If I thought there was anyway to keep two emperors I would, but from the research I've done it seems to be highly discouraged.

The Flagfin is from the genus Apolemichthys and they sometimes are referred to as medium because of their relative size - Not dwarf, not large - only reaching about 6".

It's a risk, however you do it and tank size has a lot to do with it. I would start looking for the larger tank 120+ pretty soon.

They recommend feeding all angels at least two times a day a mix of meaty foods (including Sponge!), supplemented iwth vitamins and leafy greens, and Nori.

I feed mine a mix of frozen Angel & Butterfly Diet, Emerald Entree, Mysis Shrimp, and Ocean Nutrition Angel Formula, Zoecon.

We keep a large emperor and a flame angel together without any real problems. While the emperor is quite the bully for everyone in the tank, the flame is just too fast for the emperor to bother too much. We have had problems (as expected) adding smaller fish after the emperor and are currently thinking about removing the emperor for a 'time out' while we introduce a few more fish (like our CBB that we've tried twice to introduce), and then put him back in to see if that works better.
