Fishneedit.com Build

I ordered from http://www.fishneedit.com/2-x-150w-mhl-with-2-x-2bulbs-3ft-2150223.html last week but had them modify the shipment to include 2 X 250 MH instead of the standard 150s.

This is going on top of a DSA Neo 90.

Everything is completely modular and stand alone which is one of the reasons why I went with this fixture. I can reconfigure it, split it apart, swap out longer T5s for a different tank, add more MH pendants, etc. They include every adapter, bracket, hanging kit, and legs needed as if each item were to be installed by itself.

500 watts MH at 10K plus 156 watts of Actinic out of the box. Total price including shipping was $480.00 and this includes everything including the fixtures, mounting rails, hanging kits, clamps, bulbs, ballast, etc. The only thing you need to supply is electricity and the time to assemble.

As you can see, the T5s have a hardwired external ballast. The MH have external ballast with detachable cords. The cords are short, not allowing the ballast to rest flat on the foor using my current tank and stand.

Here is the kit mostly un boxed ready for assembly.

The finish is aluminum and aluminum colored paint for the plastic. Everything is very light weight but the finish scratches quite easily. I already have a few minor dings from attempting to put it together. No instructions are included in the shipment.

Splash guards for the florescent is plastic. There is glass splash / UV guards on each MH.
Some noticeable noise during start up but it seems to go away after the bulbs warm up. Warm up time was less than 3 mins.

Looking top down from the stairs. Notice the ventilation holes drilled are fish shaped. Passive cooling. No fans to be found.

The wife has some high rez photos on the way later.
I'm looking forward to ripping out all of the egg crate in this tank and putting my corals in the best spot according to their needs.

Hopefully say around the time of MACNA I might end up with a pair of really nice clams in there.

Hi Howard!

What lights are turned on in that picture? It is hard for me to conceive of running 2 250 mh on that tank. But, what do I know?

Everything is on in that photo. I have a 1/2 horse cooler that I can use if need be. My biggest concern at this point is not burning anything with the big change.
Going to move the softies much lower off the frag racks, and run the MH for an hour in the morning and evening and eventually increase the run time to at least 8 a day.

I have an old 500 watt Maristar 36" on top of my Aqueon 65 for 4 months now and the only real issue is a bit of excess heat from it. The moni loves the light for sure.
