I bought a new clown but im not sure what kind it is. The new one is the smaller of the two. The older large one was marked as a true back when i got it.

Thanks for your help.

Correct, I have the exact same pairing, and every two weeks they lay a clutch of eggs. I have yet to capture any to raise from fry, but I hope to try in the near future. I'm very curious to see what comes from a Percula and an Ocellaris.

Thank you all for the info. The two clowns are geting along great & are stay together.

Marc when are your eggs do to hatch ? Its nice to know that they can pair up. I hope that mine will pair up as well. How long have you had your clowns & how long was it before they layed eggs ?

I've had the female for 8 years, and the male for 1.5 years now. They've been laying eggs for the past year, starting last January actually. After the eggs are laid, they usually release within 7 to 8 days, late at night.

Of the thousands of eggs I've seen laid, I've only seen one clown fry swimming in my reef one night, and it was briefly at that. I just happened to be watching the tank with a flashlight and saw the little 'comma'-shaped fry for a few seconds.

They must be raised in a separate tank in total darkness, fed 5x per day for the first 2 weeks, which I hope to attempt sometime.

I have two false percs, one is the typical orange/white coloration and the other is a black one. They are paired up, but no eggs as of yet! I think mismatched clown pairs are neat.

Someone posted a message up on RC about a false perc pairing with a tomato and laying eggs. I'll see if I can dig it up, if I remember correctly he was even able to raise the young.

Sounds strange, but he had pictures...

Hi i have a new ? now. Why is he changing colors on me ? The two are still fine but he is almost black now.

Percula and ocellaris = percularis, which have been produced, and I believe some people in MARSH have done this.

Hybrids are common in clowns, as well as color/pattern morphs, but they are unlikely to produce viable offsping, kind of like mules.

yeah, once the hybrids are sexually mature they more than likely won't be able to reproduce. On a side note, has anyone raised fry from a black ocellaris and regular ocellaris? That would be interesting to see as well.

So is that why it is changing colors. He is a black ocellaris ? I didnt know they could change colors.
