first time frag swap seller - tips?

I'm thinking about selling at the frag swap but I don't have a nice frag tank. Is it reasonable to set up a 20tall with a couple power heads and a heater and hang my light over it? Also, should I use new water or use dt water? Any other tips would be appreciated!

I think a 20g would work fine. You can pick up some of that light diffuser eggcrate stuff and use some PVC to make a frag rack. Bring some extension cords and a power strip, heater, bags, extra salt water, and a way to hang your light. Maybe add a small HOB filter? Most people seem to have some sort of basic mechanical filtration or carbon running. I just use DT water and bottle it up before I go and add NSW to the tank so that I get my weekly water change done at the same time. Bring some extra salt water as you'll be bagging things up and lowering the level of water if you have things near the top. Bring a siphon hose to empty the tank when done and perhaps some towels.

Keep I mind, the bigger tank you bring, the more water you'll need to lug around.

Melevesreef frag tanks typically hold about 10 gallons, and that's part of what makes them so appealing.

Anyhow, mike covered the basics pretty well. Make sure you price out your corals ahead of time, and if they're going to be hard to see them in the 20, then bring a laptop or ipad with pictures. You can even show off pics of the colonies.

Cut the frags now, so they have time to heal.

Transport of the corals is a biggie. The less they get banged around on the way to the show, the better. Especially zoas.
Create a rack of egg crate that not only fits your tank, but fits a piece if Tupperware properly. That way, you can lay out the frags the night before, price them, and then just pick up the tray and move it in the Tupperware and then into the tank.

Hope this helps

Bring a wagon for the water, and bring some of them plastic sticks that glow in the light so that people are not putting their hands in the water as I have seen other corals shrink up when that happens thus spoiling the chance for them to be seen and sold.

Where can I get the plastic sticks? I plan on making my own frag tank eventually, I'll have to see if I can get everything together in time for this swap. Side note... Is it bad form to bring frags that I bought previously at frag swaps or from members? I don't want people to think I'm just buying to cut it up and make some cash.

One suggestion I would make is not to buy a coral, and cut it up that night to try and sell frags of it the next Day [smilie=wink.gif]. Other than that, the point of the frag swap is to bring frags of corals. I've often bought frags from someone, grown them out and sold them at future swaps. That kind of the idea of the swap, you never know when the guy that sold you the original frag is gonna need a piece back.

I think Marc had the sticks as well.

We've had people show up with 10 frags of the exact same coral and well out. You never know what's gonna be popular, and it's always fun to buy/sell and trade.
