Fat or sick?

My six line is behaiving normally, but he has gotten very fat in the last couple weeks. Take a look at the picture. I am afried his stomach is going to explode. I've noticed my flatworms are back (I guess you can never get rid of all those little Ba##$$ds), so he may just be gorging himself. Thoughts?

Thanx,

Mark

We need more pictures - taken with a flash might work better. It looks unhealthy to me in that shot, and my Six Line Wrasse was indeed fat, but not in that shape.

I agree something is not right with that. you may want to post that in Amanda's thread and see if she has any ideas. Of course he is probably impossible to catch so you may not be able to do much!

Thanks. I agree, there is no way I can catch him. I just hope it doesn't spread. The funny thing is he started getting fat after my flatworms appeared again, so I assumed he was just eating like a pig.

He definately isnt just fat. Is he swimming around ok? Have you seen it poo?
Without being able to catch him there isnt a whole lot you can do. Medicated food is an option, but its a semi-pain in the rear and you need to keep really fresh carbon running for the days you are using it. Let me know if that something you want to try and I can make some recommendations.

He eats, but no I have not seen him poop. He swims around normally. I couldn't see anyway in the world I could catch him, I have over 150lbs of LR and tons of hiding places. Have you seen anything like this before? I think I'll post it on RC and see if anyone knows what it might be. Total bummer, this is a great fish.

I had a coral beauty that got super bloated about 3 years ago. I posted everywhere, and the only thing that sounded at all reasonable was that the fish had a internal bacterial infection and the bacteria was producing some form of gas as a byproduct and it was basically making the fish explode. FYIW, she lived with this condition for ~3 months before expiring; this was by far the most tramatic fish loss I have had(it just looked so uncomfortable). GOOD LUCK.

one of my freshwater fish look like that. the day after i noticed that he was doing flips in the water, then her stopped. the day after that he was dead. looks to me like it is extremely constipated or has a tumor.

Thanks, chris
