So I've been having issues with heat on my 60g oceanic. So I decided to install fans blowing across the top of the tank. Here are some pics of the final piece. I used four simple PC fans connected to a fan controller. The fan controller wasn't necessary, it just looked cool with the led's lit up.

They are pushing air in. After reading a couple of articles, pulling air out really doesn't help much unless the canopy is air tight

What if you had two on the left pushing air and two on the right pulling air?!? Would it create a swirl inside?

I had that previously with three fans. Didn't see an advantage so I switched to four and made them pump air in only. Dropped the tank 2 degrees. So I'm gonna stick with it

Micro center or frys both have great selection of controllers. Buy a power supply also. Just trick it to think its hooked to a motherboard other wises the power supply won't work.

They have an AC adapter at frys for 10$ that allows you to just plug the fans to the wall. No speed control though. But I want the fans to run full speed anyhow

I forgot to add that the transformer/adapter has multiple outputs and each fan has an extension to add another fan. Im not sure just how many it would power but lekely more than you would ever put on an aquarium. I put one 200 MM case fan on my sump that is 120 CFM and another 120 mm(?) blowing across the tank. It cut the temp a ton and now the chiller barely runs.

I like the fan controller idea and have tossed around the idea myself but the power supply was always the killer. I built a fan controller into my recent PC build and it was on sale for like $20 at Fry's I think so not expensive and adds lots cool BLING factor for sure :)

The transformer from frys should power the controller too. I also heard people use 12 V cell phone chargers to power the fans.

Most controllers won't work with AC adapter. I got a 200w power supply from micro center for 13 bucks. Has a 3in x 4 in foot print
