fans in stand and canopy

Advice please...
I am finishing my stand and canopy for my 70g and don't know where to place the fans. I would like to place 2 in the back of the stand close to the sides and put a vent hole in the middle for cords and air to exhaust. On the canopy I would like to place the fans in the same location but air would be able to leave from a gap between the suspended canopy and the tank. Is it a good idea for both fans to blow in or do I need one to blow in and one out? My reasoning for putting them in the back is I would prefer not to have light shining out of the sides.(i.e. from fuge light at night and from hood lights during operation.

Help me out guys and gals.

Thanks,

Lance

i always have had good results for cooling with both fans pointed down to water with air being pushed out from the back of the canopy. Casey

you may need a adjustable power supply switch to quet them down

If you want to vent as opposed to cooling the tank, put one blowing air in and one sucking out. I did that on my 90 with 4 icecap fans and it keeps everything moving below the tank and exhausting well.

OK I think what I would like to do is wire the fans to my AC Jr and have them come on when the tank reaches a certain temp. I only have four 3" fans so do I need to run two all the time creating ventilation through the stand and run the other two in the suspended light hood for cooling down and if so do they need to blow down passed the lights at the water or up to pull the heat out of the fixture. Here's a picture of my stand and canopy before it was finished but will give some idea what I'm using. The height is adjustable so I can change the gap between the hood and tank.

May I suggest you have one on the top of the canopy exhausting out? Most of the hot air and humidity flow to the top of the canopy and this would be optimal to exhaust.

I did this on my 90 gallon, and I put a steel grill on it and there is very little light spill out and it does wonders!

actually that pic is before the clearcoat. i kilzed the whole thing, painted first coat, wet sanded, repainted and started layers of fast drying polyurethane. i've got three coats on it now and realized i need to get the fans mounted. i'll put one more coat on after all the holes are cut. here it is now.
