I'm in the process of stepping up to a 188 (48x30x25).

I'm looking for a return pump for the sump (1,000GPH-1,200GPH)
I also want 1" MPT / 1" MPT

What would be the best choice.

Iwaki MD55RLT
Gen-X PCX-55HP
Pan World 50PX-X
Little Giant - 3-MDQX-SC
Coralife Turbo-Sea 1090

Any others w/1" MPT / 1" MPT?

I just switched to an external pump on my 100g reef. I want from an older Supreme submersible rated @ 1300gph to an Iwaki MD40RXLT external pump rated @ 1362gph. Found that I have less head loss with the Iwaki, to the point I had to use a valve and throttle it back a little bit. No noticeable heat increase or decrease, but I upgraded my lighting mix with more T5s and installed canopy fans for cooling because of lights. The pumps and fans still make less noise than the overflows and we have a fishroom, so a little noise isn't a big deal.
Best of Luck with your tank upgrade!!!

I like the Sequence Dart pump....silent and strong. :D Cheers said:
I agree, you can always put a ball valve on top to slow it down too. Or run several things of if like i do. I run my chiller, and phosban reactor, CA reactor and the return off 1 dart.

Pay all that for a pump and choke it down.... :?: said:
Yep, sometimes. It becomes a matter of built in expandability. Its cheaper to buy a size or two larger than buy a new pump if you decide to run other things off it later. Unless you are installing it with a chiller, ca reactor, media reactors, sump etc etc already in place and size accordingly, it can be more cost effective down the road to have the pump growth from the start. In addition, people often hard plumb and if you go to a different pump later, that sometimes requires redoing plumbing.

I looked at the Wahoo and the Tarpon. The Wahoo was 1" in and 3/4" out. I thought that would work till I found out it was discontinued. The Tarpon is 1 1/2 in and 3/4" out but still pushing 2600 gph.

I have the sequence pumps and the Gen-X, the Gen-X runs much cooler and does a really good job! I've only cleaned it out once. 3 years and going strong!
