Enough lighting

[hi - quick question regarding my future tank - going to mixed sps, lps, zoos, and clams - dimensions are 84" x 30" x24 - room divider - so rock and corals will be at least 4" away from the ends, plus one end will have a 8" overflow - so, tank length is really closer to 70" - will i have enough light if i go with 3 250 de halide pendants?? probably 20k as i won't have any actinic supplement - thanks.]

[Should be fine. Keep your SPS near the top as 20k don't have the high intensity of say a 10k but that should be plenty to do what you want!]

[Yes, if three MH bulbs are used over 72" that would be fine. You said 70" so even better. I wouldn't use all 20,000K but that is me. I don't like blue tanks. Over mine, I have 10,000K - 20,000K - 10,000K and the look is nice, even if I turn off the VHO supplementation.]

[i know - your tank does blend well, but i like a blue tank - also, since i won't have any actinics, i didn't want to go just 10k - the lights now look yellow with 192 watts of actinic supplementation - and, i hear a lot of people don't like the 14K - and it is hard to justify the 4th halide! - mainly zoos, shrooms, lps and clams - some sps, but mainly the others - should be good right?? thanks.]

[If you are focusing on softies, you could go with all VHO lighting, and use actinics only. :p :Oo:

Someone posted about XM 15,000Ks coming out. Maybe that will look good, but I don't know. Maybe Sanjay will shed some light  on the subject at Next Wave.]

[no, i definitely want to go with halides, i just think i will have enough with the 3 - i guess time will tell - thanks.

gm]

[I can promise you the three will be plenty. We can argue bulb color and intesity stuff all day but the 3 piece of this is a non issue in my mind!]
