Endless Topic - Anemone's and PC Lighting

I've had a GBTA for 6 years now, she's split many many times and has done quite well in my main tank. I've sold/given away all the clones, and all I've got is the one clone left (The original actually walked into a powerhead about a year ago, but since they're clones, I count it as a single survival-timeline).

However, the more I get into SPS, addictive little colored sticks that they are, the more I'm not wanting an anemone in my main tank. However, having kept one so long, it's hard to get rid of her now. That, and the spousal unit just LOVES Anemone's/Clowns so there's incentive to keep her.

Here's what I'm thinking. I've got a spare shelf now that I took 2 of my refuguims out, and it just so happens that this spare shelf is just the PERFECT size for a 20 gallon long tank. Put it there, plumb it into my main system. I've got a spare pair of 55 watt PC ballasts/endcaps, and was thinking of putting them over it.

I know lighting and anemone's is one of those forbidden topics that can be argued all day, but what do ya'll think? 110 watts of PC over a 12" tall 30" long tank enough for a GBTA, or should I just find her a new home? (And answer honestly, don't say find a new home just hoping to get her please... I know what you vultures are like... )

Serk,
I would think that by the time you add a bit of rock, etc that the anemones would be able to get enough light to be happy. In any case, since you already have most of the items you need and would be watching it/them closely, I think I'd sure give it a try.... esp since you've had them for so long. If you want to get some intensity readings from the lights before you move and after you move them, it might be informative if possible.

I'd think 8-10" from that much light would do fine.. Is the anemone small enough to fit in a 20g tank confortably?

She disappeared into the rockwork 4 or 5 months ago, and I'd given her up for gone, but about a month ago she wandered back out. Tiny, but alive, and slowly growing again... Currently maybe 3 inches across at the base, so size shouldn't be an issue, at least not for quite some time...

Unfortunately, since her Lazarus impersanation, shes' taken to wandeirng the tank, searching out my prettiest SPS frags and stining 'em senseless, which is why I'm wanting to move her to her own tank/someone else's tank...

(I saw she just because I've never seen her spawn...)

BTA's in general should do fine under VHO/PC lighting.

Water quality is top priority and I'm sure you got that down since you've got SPS.

Bummer! thought about making a rock pile for it? Or when you say wander do you mean floating in the current? said:
Thought about it, but there's not enough open sand in my main tank to build a rock pile anymore... Guess I'll start looking for a 20 long to have drilled/try drilling myself... :)

Thanks for the input ya'll... I was pretty sure the 110 watts in such a shallow tank would be enough, but wanted to bounce it off some fellow reefers before trying it...

I agree that in a tank that shallow you should be fine. Just make sure they are daylight spectrum (not heavy on actinic) and change them regularly and it should be fine!
