Emergency

I have a 12 gallon Nano tank.

I won a Long Tentacle Anemone. I added it to the tank on Monday Night. I also did a 50% tank change of the water. I also trimmed up Kenya Tree and added some Pumping Xenia.

The tank has been really stable with no issues.

I checked today, I've got amonian about 3.0
Nitrate 5.0 and Nitrate at between 5-10 ppm.

I lost 1 fish already, a snail and mabye another small fish.

Now my Clown fish is getting sick at the top of the tank, breathing hard. I've moved them to another tank and going to watch them, but it might be too late.

ANY help will be appreaciated.

Do you have any saltwater you can use tonight, even if it is in a rubbermaid bin? I would transfer all livestock out of your tank into the temporary container.

Something is cycling your tank, hard. Nitrite of 5??? Ammonia of 3. Ouch.

You're going to need lots of saltwater for water changes in the temporary system. That is one of the LTAs that was cut in half, right? Maybe it is the cause. Does it appear to be dying?

Yup,

I won both halfs. Its getting the brown at the mouth like I was reading about. I won both halfs. In different tanks, its hiding, and it has pulled itself down into the rocks.

I've got about half of a 5 gallon of salt water unused. I did the other half in the nano last night.

I can be reached at 214-240-3064

The tank IMO is way too small to handle an anemone, especially one in that state. It takes a lot of water to dilute the toxins that probably are coming off of that injured anemone, You would have to be going 50% water changes daily and possibly more than that for the first few days. Someone else with a bigger system might want to help you with this. You could possibly wipe out everthing you already have and the anemone.

I don't have any. All my tanks I've waited, and not needed it.

I larger tank sat with just rocks and water for about 4-5 months cycling.

:(

Dale, had you moved a healthy anemone into your tank, and a nano really is too small for anything but a rock anemone in my opinion, this would not have happened. But putting one that has just been cut in two is simply not going to work, as you can see.

You need to get some help from someone nearby with a larger tank if you hope to save any of your livestock.

You don't have any type of ammonia locking products? You can go to Walmart right now to buy Amquel. I can't remember if StressCoat will do the same. Petsmart or Petco should have it too, but you'd have to go now.

Prime would work as well.

ok,

Thanks,

I've got the carbon, not an Issue, I can do that, I'll also go to the wallyworld right now and get the locking now.

Thanks,

Can I then move and have the two halves in a 30 gallon tank, till I figure something out ?

Dale

I know its my fault...I guess I should have done more study before getting them, I was hoping my clowns would like it.

If you still have the sponges installed, you should probably be sure to give them a good cleaning. If a piece of tissue from the anemone broke off, it could get sucked into the overflow and would be trapped there while it pollutes your tank. It might be a good idea to check whatever media you have in the back chambers of your cube. I'm assuming this is a Nanocube 12 ?

Dale, I'm in Coppell, just up the road (sorta) from Irving. I have some amquel plus if you want to come get it.

I also have a decently large QT w/ just LR (30g) that you're more than welcome to bring your critters to if you need somewhere to keep em. I work from home, so I'd be happy to help you out and keep an eye on them for the next couple of days.

Call me at 972-768-3523 if you want to swing by.

I got the Amonia Lock - Petsmart let me in at the last - SEC ... REally...

I took everything out of the back of the nano, and only have live rock chunks. So only Natural Filtration. Do I need to remove the anemone, or should I leave him for now, I can move him into my 30 gallon with the other half of itself.

I'm going to measure that tank now to check it out.

Thanks.

Dale, did you turn off the pump and clean out the chambers well when you removed all the sponges from the back? If not, there could be some nasty grunge stirred up because of disturbing the sponges. If it were me, I'd move the other half into the larger tank. Those nano's can be sooo hard to keep stable. Look at it funny, and things can go out of whack in a hurry.

Nope,

I never had the sponges. First thing I did was remove the sponges, and everything else. I then put in Live rock in pieces. Added the sand, and let it cycle for a couple of months.

No sponges, or anything. I've had it running stable for months. I'm bad and don't do the water changes as I should. Every Time - Every time I do a water change something dies. My last water change was 1 - 2 months ago.

I leave it alone, only add Calcium if it needs it after a test, and it runs really well.

Don't tinker, and then when I do, Something always seems to die :(

Thanks to everyone for now. Going to bed, The large tank is showing up fine, they are all over there, now, and I'm going the aminion lock in.

I'm going to test it in the morning and I'll see what happens.

Hopefully things will level off, we will see what happens, I'll leave this up and check it in the morning.

thanks.

I hear ya- had the same problem with the wife's nano. You either have to do a LOT of work on it, or very little. If you do regular, small water changes (1g / 2wk) , it's not so bad.

Now I woke up this morning and the Anemone is floating on top of the water under the lights?

What the ??????? Is this thing dead now, or just wanting the lights. The slow current is moving it along.

It looks like its foot is still there, I think. Its got brown goop on the side, but that probably for the sand, and rocks from where it was. Is it dead, or there for the light and leave it alone ??

I'll have this up at work, and I can always have someone at home get rid of it, if this thing is dying. The other one, is still buried in the sand and rock. Both still have a nice red base to them

Thanks.

I watched the anemone this morning. Its leg/foot appeared to be moving, not the current moving it. I'm thinking its possibly still alive and now coming up for the light???

Any ideas?

You might try to somehow keep the anemone corralled next to the glass so it might have a chance to attach instead of being blown around by the currents.

It's being held sort of now, The magnet and the Fish Feeder - Plastic fish clip was holding it in from blowing around in the tank.

So He hopefully will attach to the glass and mabye be happy??

Hoping...
