emergency-copper treatment in my tank!

earlier, i left the room to use the bathroom and my 2 year old crawled on top of the kitchen counter(dont ask how im still wondering) and into a cabinet where we keep our fish stuff and dumped half of a 6 oz bottle of ick treatment in my main 40gal. tank that was only for our qt tank. my mushrooms are dying but the fish seem okay. ive tested the water parameters and everything tests fine. my question is now that we are unable to do reef in this tank, we are going to break it down completely and i was wondering if any of our stuff will be able to put into our 120 gallon once it cycles or is it a lost hope?
thanks again

i dont have a awnser for u but if i were u and wanted a real quick awnser i would just call several lfs's theres stuff to run to absorb it and filters to use but i dont know what exactly

good luck

I think the fish are ok but I would be leary about anything else. The copper will absorb into the rocks, sand, etc.

Sounds like you will have a rocking good QT tank for awhile.

it was a cap-ful per gallon.
ive been monitoring the fish and the inverts are transfered into another tank right now. thanks, i will be making a trip to my lfs in about an hour.

You can buy media to absorb the copper. I had some, but gave it to another club member when he was in need. Maybe Serk can recall what kind it was.

Poly Filters... call any LFS that might be open and get an item called Poly Filter...

I keep an emergency one on hand if you're willing to head out to Rowlett for it, I'd sell it for what it'd cost me to replace, $10, if you wanna get one tonight and can't get a hold of an LFS...

Plus, I'd do as near as a 100% water change as you can possibly do ASAP...

(There was a specific copper removing resin I got from Gravit, but I've never seen it before or since and don't remember the exact brand name)

Call all of the LFSs until you find one that carry this stuff. I bought this from Fish Paradise in Ft. Worth about 3 years ago when my 1-year old dropped 2 AAA batteries in the sump for over 4 hours. This "thing" changes color when exhausted so you'll know when you need to remove it. Unfortunately, I do not remember what the name or brand it was.

HTH,

Khoa - Sure you're not referring to Polyfilter pads? Those were one of the things I used in my emergency, and they DO indeed remove copper, but Gravit had a resin media that was specifically made to remove copper, and only copper...

Correct, I'm not talking about Polyfilter pads. I don't remember much about this product except it was a resin. I don't know if it removes anything other than coper, but coper was the reason I bought it.
