Electrical mishap...including smoke!

Well, my ATO controller fell into my sump...thank goodness I was there when it happened! Lots of snap, crackle, and popping, then the smoke. Took me a second to figure it out but just pulled the plug on everything. Didn't manage to fry me, my fish, or any of my other equipment somehow, but I have lost some corals and the rest of it is bleaching. Is there anything I can do to help everything recover? Lost my entire milli colony, most of my chipps acro, my red dragon, my strawberry shortcake, and a few others.

Worst part is that I had a stunner strip that I tried to fix the wiring on fall into my frag tank the day before and all my zoas have been closed for over a week now. Don't know what's going to make it. I should have known everything was going to well, and I should have known better than to try to fix something that I knew wasn't going to be safe if it fell. (in the water or out) STUPID STUPID STUPID!!

So I got the zoa eating asterina starfish under control, after they ate some of my best zoas, and now this...ugh!!

I would do water change and run carbon. Hopefully if there were contaminates that leaked in the water the carbon will get it out.

+1000000 on the poly filters do it asap I think I have a few laying around I can check if you want to come get them now

You need to get that capacitor oil out of the water ASAP as it is poison to most anything, If you have a diatom filter I would run it in addition to what the others have suggested to make sure your water is crystal clear and clean.

I have a couple ... I will send 1 to Haltom City in the morning. If you want to pick up between 6am-8am or 10am-3pm near Clay and Beach. Just let me know in advance. It will be in the truck either way. You will either pick up or it will come back home. I think I read that you moved, so not sure if you are still in that area.

Sending PM w/ cell number.

You may want to replace your GFCI, because it is probably defective.
The GCFI should have cut power instantly, so there wouldn't be any snapping or crackling.

Whenever I've spilled water onto an electrical component, the GFCI's tripped right away and
there was no permanent damage after I dried everything up, though you can't help feeling
not so smart [smilie=itwasntme.gif]
