Effects of a split light cycle

Ok so I'm thinking about setting up a tank next to the bed and I was wondering what effect would having the lights come on at 5 am and off at 8 am and then back on at 9pm and off midnight . ( wow that's a heck of a run-on sentence!) I would really like to have the lights on when I go to bed and get up , but I'm unsure of what it would do to fish and corals .
Thanks in advance yall

Well i run 5 am till 8 am (get up)
and on again at 5 pm till 830 pm (home from work)
So i can enjoy them!!!
The guy i got my coral from runs a split cycle.
I dont see anything strange.

It should not be a problem once your livestock gets used to the cycle. Just one note: your pH will increase while the lights are on and decrease when off. This should not be a problem just something to be aware of.

David,
Does it hurt to leave the light on 24/7 on my hob refugium. So not to get that swing.
(sorry not trying to hijack your thread)

I have never even thought of doing that!!!
Good thinking!
I'm sure it'll be fine !
You could relate it to real cycle of the ocean..... For instance its not always perfectly sunny outside, the sun comes and go's !!!

Thanks for the input everyone that's what I was wanting to hear so the 20l build will begin next weekend . On a side note about the ph swing , I wonder if it will minimize the swing by not having enough time to go to either extreme . I wonder if anyone with a ac3 or reefkeeper could log thier ph swings For a week normal cycle then for a week split cycle . I'd be interested to know if there's a difference and how much it matters.
