Eel died please help - Warning graphic pics

[My eel died this weekend. He had been refusing to eat for sometime. I have had him for over a year and not sure how long the guy before me but probabaly several years. I have not had any problems with since the great power outage last year. The salinity is 1.023 the temp is around 78 and the nitrates around 20ppm I know that is a little high but everything is growing well. I would feed the eel krill about once a week. I also noticed that he was developing white spots all over his body first very small maybe 9 months ago and that they have slowly grown in size and in frequency. I have posted pics but remember they are not pretty

Please Help let me know if I'm a eel murder or did he die of old age.

:( :(]

[No idea. Did you keep it in a reef tank? Maybe it ate something that it was not able to ingest safely. It was huge!]

[It was in my 150 reef tank. It has nurmerous corals and fish. The only the missing is a dragon goby/hoover goby that was about 3in long. And who knows it could still be there just hanging out in the back.

[The white spots look almost like a type of melanoma. Do they have any kind of texture to them ore does it just apear his skin bleached? Maybe he had a disease that he just finally couldn't fight any more. I don't know what an eels lifespan is, but several year with several owners is probably pretty goo in captivity.]
