Eductors

[I was just wondering how many locals are using eductors in their reefs. I have been following this topic over on TRT for a while and think it is a really neat idea. I am planning to add a CLS to my tank (eventually!) and have been thinking of making some eductors to add to the outflows. This is a really interesting talk on eductors that I wanted to share, Eductor discussion.

If anyone here is already using these, I would love to hear your thoughts on them and details on your setup (tank size, pump, waterflow, ect).]

[I'm still not sure I get the idea behind it. The video made it look like they were made to straighten out the flow?]

[Mark, as I understand, the eductors create a wider, more rolling, laminar (?) flow as opposed to a narrow linear flow and they significantly increase the volume and speed of the flow by drawing extra tank water through the holes in the back of the eductor. Eductors do require pumps (such as Iwakis, GenX) that can handle high head pressure or they won't work. I don't understand this perfectly, yet - I'm still working on it, myself. :;):]

[Very interesting concept. My question is if you have to buy a pump that is going to give such massive flow anyway why would you need it increased even more unless you have an absolutely huge tank?

The concept is much like a jet engine. Suck, compress, and blow to keep it simple.

If it could do this without needing the pressure I think it would work great. If you could put a Mag 9.5 on a sqwd and put eductors on both outputs I think it would rock. I just don't think there is a ton of use for the current designs unless you have a massive tank. (Like 220G+)

Having said that if your lucky enough to have a massive tank I would definitly look at using these!]
