EcoTech VorTech Wavemaker *pic's inside*

Edited:

Has anyone purchased this product yet and if so, what is your opinion.

Marc, you showed this at Plano Pets a few months back, but you do not have a review of it on your web-site. What is your opinion?

From opening the box to operational took maybe 6 minutes. This is one awesome piece of equipment. The "pull" is amazing at full speed. I have placed this on the end of a 5 foot, 120 gallon tank. I have played with the difference speeds (knob control) and will put it on a timer (wavemaker) later with a min. of 5 minutes off per instructions. I am most amazed at the return flow from the opposite end. I have some Xenia just to the left of the vortech and the return flow from 5 feet bends it over just a little. No sand storm though. I have it placed towards the top. The construction appears top notch. I am looking forward to experiementing with flow and timers.

tagging along...I was going to post something like this last night. I am in the market for 2 of these or 2 Tunze streams. The funny thing is the Vortex will cost more then the Tunze's. Things i like, Motor on the outside and Battery back up us coming. I think there is supposed to be a Multi controller coming out as well, but not sure when.

I'm sure Marc's review is caught up in one of these threads but there's tons of good info on this pump in this forum.

I'm using 2 of the Vortech pumps now. I have never used tunze pumps so I can't compare.

The battery backup is supposed to come out soon and the controller is still in the testing mode.

I have been happy with mine so far. Before the vortech pumps I had two maxijets on a chauvet timer. I have the vortech pumps on the lowest setting and just have them on continuously. My capnella has never looked better since I added the vortech pumps.

The other advantage of the pumps is that I'm in the process of upgrading to a 140 gallon tank. But since you can control the output of the pump I can use them now in my 60 gallon tank.

Yes, I've definitely reviewed the pump.

The battery backup should be coming out pretty soon. I believe within three weeks, but that is just an estimate.

How much clearance do you need for the "motor" the dry part? I am curious what the minimum amount of room needed from tank to wall.

The clearance from the exterior of tank for the motor is 2 1/2 to 3 inches max.

They have a failsafe design. If the magnet dislodges, it shuts itself down.

I am currently running this about 60% speed and it really is alot of flow, but it is dispersed very well. I have a seio opposite of the vortech running constantly for counterflow (random).

The vortech can be operated on ANY wavemaker or timer, giving a minimum of 5 minute intervals.

I would not hesitate to make this purchase.

I just had one of my impeller units crack. I called ecotech and they are sending me a new impeller unit. The only question they asked was where I purchased it from. He said that they had some manufacturing issues and this may be a problem for some pumps. He said that they now have the problem corrected.

If you have this pump or plan to purchase it I would definitely send in the warranty information and save the purchase receipt just in case you have problems in the future. The pump is warrantied for 1 year.

I read in the IC forum on reef central they are extending the warrenty to a total of 2 years since they are running into issues. IC is a great company and they stand behind there products but these sure have had a lot of issues with these.
