Eating fire bristleworm?

My idiot Volitan just power munched a fairly large fire bristleworm and ate it. At first he spit it out, but then went after it again and again until he balled it up and choked it down.

I assume he is going to be able to digest this foul treat?

Big one like this:

I lost a dragonet that way. He sat pretty much motionless on the sand for 2 days before he died.

He does not look any worse for wear at the moment. In fact, he is keeping a close eye on me while I mix up new water just in case I decide to toss silversides in the tank.

I put up with the worms in my smaller tanks simply because they are great scavengers. A few however have grown big. This one was pretty much 7 inches when stretched out enough to feed.
When they get that big, I chunk them in my top Pred FOWLR. Anything that can survive in that tank has earned the right. :p

Only this time the lion fish was watching my every move from the side and saw an opportunity. He is begging for more food now. Maybe its sorta like eating a whole Habenero chilli. The gift that gives twice, but causes no lasting harm.

Looks like a fireworm to me.. notice the reddish stripe down the sides? Not all fire worms are a problem in our tanks, Ive had ones that look exactly like that but up to 18 inches long in my tanks over the years without a problem. Can't say I have had a fish try to eat one though..... About the only issue I can see is infection from the lips/throat or if it got wacked in the eye with the bristles causing some infection or eye damage. Looks like you have a gourmet on your hands.

Right! So much for the idea that if it taste bad I can add it to my tank. I'm guessing that any critter under 3.5" is fair game for him.

Home boy is still swimming and still eating. More power to him I guess. I'm going to make sure he is not paying attention the next time I pull a big one to toss into the pred tank though.
No point in tempting fate.

I suggest a bristleworm eating contest at MACNA for the top raffle prize. said:
Would have to be one heck of a prize! One good bw sting on my finger can make my whole hand swell up. They never used to affect me much, but, the more stings I accumilated, the worse my reactions to the stings. [smilie=shake.gif] Hmmm....wonder if eating one would give me Angela Jolie lips? [smilie=lol.gif]

I had a bicolor psuedochromis that was hell on bristles...any size was no problem! He kept the population of worms well in check! [smilie=devil.gif]
