Easy Frag Rock

I got tired of having a ugly frag rack in my tank so I decided to create a frag rock. I took a piece of tufa rock I wanted to add and drilled the holes with 3/8 drill bit. The rock is so porous, it drills very easily. Now my cleaner crew will have access to clean algae off the frags.

Tufa rock is $0.50lb at whiz-q-stone in E Fort Worth. I think that would be a $2 piece of rock. It's not expensive to do. Another thing about tufa rock, you can cut easily with a hacksaw blade.

My understanding is that Tufa is a limestone rock."]

Hi Heath!

OK, so you believe it is safe then, right?

If it doesn't have a lot of poisonous metals in it, I will be looking for a couple of table rocks made of this in the near future! Why wait for my homemade rocks to cure for 3 months if I can get some right down the street for 50 cents a pound?

Thanks!

I've been using tufa rock in both my tanks. It is made from calcium deposits from hot springs and it is more porous than regular live rock. I can pour a cup of water through the stone. Whiz-Q-Stone sells it for bio media for ponds.
