Easier water change!

Thank to a video I saw on YouTube! My next step is to drain the tank all the way outside. Tired of lifting these 5 gallon buckets. [attachment=0]ImageUploadedByTapatalk1368951315.263120.jpg[/attachment.

Thinking about using a pump thru a 50ft garden house to drain the 25 gallons every 2 weeks. Any ideas?

I use a pump and hose to pump water out and another to pump water in. Back when I had 300+ gallons of water volume and a cattle trough to mix water this was the only logical way.

We use a mag 9 to pump water to the sink and then pump water back in. If we are in a hurry and don't have time to do a full cleaning during the water change, we can change out 25 gallons in less than 10 minutes. I have a hose long enough to reach the sink. Water is pumped directly into the kitchen sink from the tank. Then I toll the trashcan of salt water over to the tank and pump it back in. Takes no time at all.

I usually drain as much as possible from the sump and add the water back there to simplify things a bit. You can even use a wet vac to get the detritus build up removed. said:
+1 I just suck water and detritus at same time I use a 10 gallon wet vac takes me less that 10 min to do a wc

I like it! That's prob what I will be doing except I will prob drain it outside thru my garage and to a French drain system beside the house. It's closer than my sink and I can route the hose where it stays in the garage until I need to uncoil about 8 feet of it to get to the tank. I could always make it out of PVC pipe. After rebuilding my canopy to accommodate my new LED lights it's now too high for me to be lifting 5 gallon jugs up there.

FYI salt water will help move/remove ants. It's been difficult for me to tell which it does so far but it has moved them further and further away from my house atleast.

I've wondered what affect saltwater would have on my grass. I've emptied 25 gallons beside the house in the grass several times and nothing has happened yet.

It really depends on the type of grass you have. Bermuda and st Augustine are more resistant than some others. However, I still wouldn't do it. If I had to do it then I would move around the yard so that its not hitting the same area every time you change water. I would think that a build up over time would not be good. But I know nothing. I'm just speculating. I did read that Bermuda is more resistant to salt water though.

Sodium build upwill affect the grass eventually.

However, if you are broadcast spreading gypsum twice a year ( as you should be doing ) the gypsum will remove the sodium.

Unless your not watering your lawn I would not think you would have a buildup of salt in the lawn.

Yup is the standard series just like the link I posted

No problems with my grass or Cannas. These have just started to grow and will top the house in the next 30 days. FWIW I dump the salt directly out the right window.
