Dwarf angels - Who has one?

[Matt why don't you just get one of these instead! The outcome should be the same.

[I have a Flame Angel and it has been a model citizen. I don't have many corals, but it has never nipped at any of them. It plays nicely with all of my fish, but seems to particularly like my Yellow Tang.]

[Hey Matt,

I have a coral beatuy. I have mostly softies with 2 hammers, 1 frog spawn and some monti cap and digitata. The only thing mine picks on is my false percs and that is ususally right before dinner time. Can not figure that one out.

[I have had a Flame Angel for over 4 months and he has been wonderful. I have never seen him nip at anything and I have everything in my tank from sorfties, zoos to SPS and clam. He has never fought with any others (2 tangs, 2 damsels, 2 Ocellaris, dragon gobie, marine betta and mandarin).]

[Matt - I kept a flame angel in my sps tank and it would always nip at sps here and there. While the flame does not keep going after a specific coral and I cannot tell any damage, I always have to wonder if sps will do better if flame angel is not around to pester them. My observation is based on polyps extension.

More than likely, you'll be fine with keeping a flame angel in your sps tank. You just have to put up with some nipping.

Right now my tank is dwarf angel free - I keep 3 large Swallowtail angels instead (pair of watanabe, and a female bellus). Time will tell if sps do better in the long run.]

[I have a flame and a swallowtail. The flame is a model citizen and stays out in the open mopre than any other fish. Although in the 100 he used to hide in the rocks, can't figure that out.

The swallowtail is really nice if you can get a masked pair. The one drawback to these fish are their size. Mine is already 4 inches. With her body shape and the ability to get 9 inches makes them unsuitable for smaller tanks. She will be one fairly large fish one day.]

[Well you know I have a Flame angel that I have never seen nip at any sps. And when I had the Keyhole angel I never saw him nip at any either.BUT knowing you, you will get one and it will eat any coral in the tank.]

[I have a Coral Beauty with softies only and I've never seen her nip at any corals or polyps, but she will nip at the foot of an encroaching snail. She appears to simply be warning the snail(s) to stay away rather than actively looking for a snack. She was also a bit of a bully with the other smaller fish at first, but now they're all buddies. As an added bonus, she loves to get the occasional cleaning from the lysmata shrimp...fun to watch. :D]

[My little Cherub is kind of aggressive toward my maroons, but otherwise I haven't seen him "eating" any corals. I have mainly softies and LPS in my tank though.

He sure is a good looking fish huh Matt? :eyebrows:]

[I have a coral beauty in my tank with LPS, SPS and softies. The only thing that it can't resist to date is xenia, which isn't a bad thing IMO. :D It is prone to chasing my 4-stripe damsels around, but they need it anyway, they are too mean for their own good.]

[I have a female swallowtail. She doesn't nip at anything. She has gotten a little aggressive over time. I have had her three years.]

[I just saw a gorgeous Potter's Angel at Saltwater Paradise yesterday.

Currently, I have a Flame Angel and a Coral Beauty in my 280g, mixed reef. No problems at all. Had them both for over 2 years.]

[I had a Coral beauty that was just an awesome angel, she never nipped at anything. After she passed away I replaced her with the Bi-Color........ Satan Himself reincarnated as a Fish Im sure of it! Lil' bugger beat down my frogs spawns till they were completely closed. I ended up selling it to Jdaddy3boys - where so far hes done ok. I noticed yesterday there was a message in the sandbed: it read " Thanks Andy for gettin rid of the Angel - Love the frogs " So im sure they appreciated it :)]

[ I thought it said "I'll be back, you can bet on it!"]

[I have a Potter's angel that I bought at Saltwater Paradise about 3 months ago. It eats every food I put in the tank. I have seen it nip the slime layer off of my pagoda and yellow cup corals, but does no real damage.]
