Durso Standpipe..how tall does it need to be ?

I am setting up my 240 gallon, on the it has 2 overflows on either side. I am doing the durso standpipe, but my question is how high does the 180 degree elbow needs need to be ?

I am planning on making them myselves, rather than buying the all-glass overflow kit. On the kit, it comes with an adjustable standpipe, I am sure one reason is for different heights of the tank, but is there any other reason of having an adjustable standpipe for quietness ? or is it simply to accomodate different heights of tanks in the market ?

Sorry for the kiddie paint version :)

Hi,

This website may answer some of your questions but I believe you are correct as for the purpose of adjustability. I'ts for different tank heights and also allows you to optimize the water level in the overflow's. http://www.dursostandpipes.com/BuildYourOwn/tabid/54/Default.aspx

Cheers!

I'd make it 24 to 25" tall, so there is only a small drop from the teeth.
