durso issues

well, i setup the 92 gallon tank last night at the office - i used the mega overflow by oceanic that came with the tank - it is essentially there own variation of the durso - i have used my own durso before and had no issues - i am getting the "flushing effect" - i researched it on the website and he said it is due to backpressure in the line - but, i have a 1.5" flexible tubing that runs in a smooth fashion with only a minimum dip - what else can i do to fix this?? thanks

it is partially submerged, but, i shortened it so it was above the water level and it still did the flushing action - ???

Is there a way to adjust the air intake? If so, you might want to adjust that to eliminate the flushing. Allowing more or less air (it is an art to adjust) will help to equalize the pressure.

I agree with Todd's recomendation. It probably indicates that there is not enough air getting into the pipe from the air inlet somewhere. I was playing with mine this last weekend while I was doing some cleaning and 'made' it flush several times by just shutting down/off the air inlet hole that regulates the amount of air entering the tube...
HTH

well, i don't know - according to durso, the flushing is not caused by the amount of air being sucked in, and oceanic did not make it to where you could adjust the air size - i think i just should have made my own as opposed to using theirs!! oh well, live and learn - i will keep trying.

Try snaking some airline tubing in the drain, and see if that makes the difference. I think it is a lack of air.

I am having the same issue with one I purchaseed from stockman for my Lifereef overflow. It actually stoped after a while, but last month I took it off and cleaned it with just water and brush and now it has been doing it since!! It's very frustrating...feel like I wasted my money.

Even if I take the cap off that has the air tube, it will flush. Arggg.....

I feel (and hear) your pain!

Jody, I know you washed it, but check the vent hole very carefully. Salt can accumulate and turn rock hard restricting the flow.

The Durso's in my 280g came with the tank, and were cleaned very well when the tank was installed a year ago. Back in May when the new sump was installed, they were soaked in acid and cleaned again. The surging you guys are describing doesn't happen in my setup. The plumbing goes down and is submerged 1" under water.

Perhaps your drain line isn't large enough, or your return pump is too strong... But I really think this is air-related.

I had the same problem with my Oceanic 140, with the Oceanic Dursos. Until I "lifted" the plumbing so that the air holes are just above the overflow box. Once the plumbing was taller, and could get air circulation by not being inside the overflow, the problem went away.

Just another thought :D
