dumbest tang in the world

Ok, I had to post this because I am pretty sure my Kole tang was dropped on his head as an egg. A few days ago, I went to my tank to see how everything was and there was my Kole...stuck on my power head. I couldn't tell if it was his fin that was caught or his whole side just got stuck by the intake. Upsetting to see, but oh well. I moved him off and watch him swim away relieved that he was ok. Last night, I went to look at the tank (during a time out in the game of course) and there he was again. This time his beak was stuck in there. Now I know he likes to pick at the power heads for food. Is he just being clumsy and unfortunate or is there possibly something wrong with him that has him in a weakened state?

The power head is a Seio 820 so 820 gph. He is still swimming around just fine and eating like a champ. He is pretty small though. I'd say 2 -3 inches maybe? He has been in the tank for close to a year and this is the first time this has happened. No changes to the tank lately. I have been feeding less than usual, but that is mostly because I have one less fish. I wrasse a couple of months ago.

Looks healthy. Nice and plump, no visible signs of stress. No scratching or floating awkwardly. He just swims back and forth all day long picking at the glass and live rock.

Phillip -

It must be something in the air. I had my foxface do the samething in my mj1200 a week ago. But it was caught horizontal then a 2 days later my salfin tang was caught in the same pump with his mouth stuck.

Both are fine eating well but for those 2 days the moon must have shifted.

This is one of the reasons we have those inelegant but efficient foam barriers around our intakes ;) We initially had some very small and/or stupid fish who'd get stuck on them. So we just made foam "socks"

I may have to resort to something like that at some point, but I want to avoid it for aesthetic reasons. By the way Lisa, odd coincidence, but I have another friend whose name is Lisa Rowe. I know she's not you, just an odd coincidence

Yeah, it's not the *prettiest* thing, but neither is a finless fish ;)

Here's a pic of the foam I put around the intake in my nano - we used the black stuff, so it's not as in-your-face. It's in the upper left, back part of the tank:

Lisa Rowe is a *common* name! There's another one in Coppell who goes to my vet, my dentist, and my pharmacist. When I call the vet, I just say "It's the Dachshund lady" ;) Heck, there's another Lisa Rowe in Scott's family.
