When drilling a larger hole and thicker glass drill it from both sides. I drilled my tank which has a 3/4 in. bottom. Took about 30 minutes. Also by doing it this way you don't have any chipping when you break thru. I drilled for a 2" bulkhead no problems. If you can make yourself a guide out of some hardwood it will help alot. My tank already had a 13/4 hole so I machined a guide from UHMW than fit the I.D. of the hole saw and the 13/4 hole.
