Drilling a 40 Breeder?

Ok, so I'm considering drilling a 40 breeder and I was wonder how many holes I should drill and where?

I'm not doing a closed loop, I just want to use a sump with the tank and dont want to use a HOB drain (don't want to take a chance with an over flow/bloackage issue).

1) I was concerned about the integrity of the glass... (hole being too close to gether if I drill 2 - how far apart is safe enough?)
2) Integrity of the glass part II, would the glass be weaker if drilled in the bottom rather than the back?
3) What size hole would you recommend for a tank this size?

I picked up the club's drill bits from Matt tonight, and tomorrow I'll be drilling holes for a 3/4" return and 1" drain in the back right corner of the 40 Gallon breeder bottom glass. The holes will be about 2" apart from each other, and about 2" from the back of the tank.

If you don't mind, I'd like to swing by and help/watch you.

I have a 55 I'm looking to drill for a fuge and would like to get some first hand experience and observation.

Well I finally got the two 1 3/4" holes drilled in the tank tonight. I will be using 1" drain and return. I drilled the bottom of the tank, in the back right corner. Two inches between the holes, and about 4" from the back panel. I need to pick up some black acrylic for the overflow to get that made this weekend...

Man, I've been swamped with work here, I would have loved to have helped as well. How long did it take to go through, and did you chip it around the hole any?
Where are you getting the acrylic, and will you use sylicon to attach it to the glass?

Also, are you going to hard or soft plumb it?
Thanks.

Takes about 5 minutes I think. The club drill bits are getting a bit dull so there was a small chip on one of the holes. Gasket covers it by quite a bit so no issue with a leak. I'm going to hard plumb it back to a 100 Gallon system. I personally do not like flex hoses on anything but the TLF phosban reactors. I will likely get the acrylic at regal plastic.
