Doing water changes - need help - sorry new

I need some help on this when doing water changes do you add salt to the new r/o water. I may of mis-understood but I was told when changing water I did not have to add salt.

I've had the tank running for about 2-1/2 mnths. I did the water change after 1-1/2 months of cycling and have been doing it ever since. I have a 55 gallon tank with a snowflake eel, purple tang, and damsels. Nothing is wrong with them they seem very healthy but I just want to make sure.

Thanks Again....

When you add water to top off evaporation you do not need to add salt.

If you are doing true water changes. Draining x gallons and then replacing it then yes you need to add a salt mix.

You should mix the salt into the RODI water a minimum of several hours before you change the water and have a powerhead mixing. It is best to do this overnight.

Be sure to match the salinity, temperature, and pH to the tank conditions so you don't cause any problems with the livestock.

When you are topping off (adding) water because of evaporation, then you do NOT add salt to that water.

When you are doing a water change (actually taking water out of your tank and dumping it down the drain), you do need to add salt to the water you will put in the tank to replace it. You also need to try and make the replacement water close to the same temperature and PH of what the tank is.

I hope that made sense...

Okay I guess I rec'd some wrong information . I am only doing about 20-30 gallons at a time of my 55 gallon tank. So i need to mix the salt the night before and make sure the temp. is close to the tanks. Okay thanks it would have been a sad day at my house.

Since you will be replacing 50% plus of the current tank water, also be sure the pH and salinity are as close as you can get it to the existing tank measurements. :D
