Does Cold temerature affect on output quality water?

I have my RO/DI unit set up in the garage. My filters have been replaced last week. The membrane is 1 1/2 years old (recommend to replace 3 to 5 years?). On a hot day 60 to 90 degree temp, the output water reading on TDS is 000. Yesterday and today the output reading of TDS is 100 and even 120. Does cold temp impact the filters work? Should I use that output water with 120 TDS ? Amquel?

Thanks,

It shouldn't affect it like that at all. Slower production yes; 100 TDS no. I don't believe that reading is accurate.

I bought this TDS meter from GB on here organized by PTT. I just installed it last week. I didn't do any calibration at all. The battery should be good since the TDS is only 1 week old.

After I changed out all three filters (1st, 2nd, and 3rd), the water came out 000 for couple days. Now it reads 121. Should I change out my membrane (the one on top)? I will try to flush the membrane and see what happen.

I don't know how it woulda gotten loose after working, but I speak from experience when I say open the RO housing, and make SURE the membrane is FIRMLY seated into the housing...

He replaced the filters, not the membrane. Something is wrong. What TDS is your source water now? Maybe something in your area has gone bad.

The ppm was >100 before you replace the filter wasn't it?

Good point on making sure the membrane is pushed in all the way. I remember somebody posting that they had that same problem.

Tung - Yeah, that was me... :)

And I was just thinking it's possible, although I can't give a good explanation as to how it would happen (Pressure surge from the utilities?) that it might have worked it's way loose some...

Anyway, with 100+ TDS of your product water, I'd definitely check it... And, needless to say, but odds are once you figure out and fix whatever's wrong, you'll hafta replace your DI since it'll have long since been used up trying to keep up...

you need to test the out put of your membrane to see what the TDS is. Then test the output of your DI

If you have 25 out of RO but out of DI is greater then your resin is cashed. If the other way replace the membrane....IMHO

After flushing the membrane, the output number is still 100+. I think my membrane has expired and well used. I will have to replace.

How old is the membrane? They are good for 3 to 5 years.

You still think the TDS meter is accurate? It would be nice to have someone else test it just in case, before you spend any money on anything further.

light freeze in the dfw area last week. do you think the water in your system had iced up? if yes, the ice crystals in the ro membrane may have torn holes. check the water pressure gauge for a significant drop if your system has one on the ro section.
