Do you feed flake food? - Is so, what brand and kind?

[Hello All,

My answer to the first question is yes, I do feed flake. It is the only thing my wife is willing to feed during the day while I am away (doesn't want to mess with the thawing the frozen stuff and adding garlic). I have been using OSI Marine Flake Food and OSI Spirulina Flake Food. Everyone eats it except my Coper Band Butterfly (which is wierd because in the begining it was the only thing he would eat). I am just about out and am thinking about ordering some more but was wondering what others are using and any pros and cons.

Thanks in advace,

Stanley T''' - SALT

PS I also feed a 1/4 sheet of Nori every day.]

[I also feel Omega One Marine Flake, primarily because that's what the LFS sold me when I first got my tank. All of my fish eat it very well. I started supplementing with different frozen foods a couple of days a week.]

[Nope, my fish are spoiled and won't touch the stuff. That coupled with the fact that flake goes from my hand to the overflow in a matter of seconds makes it a no-go in my case.]

[We feed formula 2 flake and pellet (the smaller fish don't go after the flake, and the emperor prefers the larger flakes to the pellets), and spirulina flake. Typically we feed the flake/pellet in the morning, and then Melissa's frozen concoction of krill, cyclop-eeze, spirulina enriched brine, mysis, and a few other things I can't think of right now. The emperor also gets garlic soaked nori or seaweed selects on a clip a few times a week instead of the flake.]

[I also feed Omega One with the blue lid. I soak mine in Garlic before it goes in the tank. Every fish in my tank eats it including my Potter's angel and fingeres dragonette.]

[We feed a variety of flake foods. We feed Ocean Nutrition formula 2 flake and pellet and many of the various types of foods from brineshrimpdirect.com including their garlic flake, brine shrimp flake, plankton gold flake(newly trying it), deli-flake(used, but haven't re-ordered) and most importantly their freeze dried krill (often soaked a bit in selcon). Occassionally they get nori and/or something else special. I also feed cyclopeze flake, but it's not everyone's favorite. The garlic flake, freeze dried krill, and formula 2 are the most welcome by everyone.]

[mine get Formula 2 flake daily with occassional feedings of shrimp pellets for the serpents and brains and even less often, frozen mysis/brine/ bloodworms. I used to feed the Omega One and my fish seemed to really like it, too. Between Formula 1 and 2, my fish have a definate preference for the f-2.]

[Ocean Nutrition's flakes sometimes. Everybody likes it except for the Banjai and Pajama cardinals. Neither of the 4 will touch any of the flake.]

[My main food source is also the OSI Marine Flake Food that you are using SALT. I will use frozen meaty food about twice a week to supplement. All fish are hesitant when first added, but when they see others eating (and probably realize this is all they get) they dig in.]

[WOW! Thanks for all of your responses.

I guess I thought that the norm was to feed frozen and suppliment with flake but there are lots of folks who do the opposite.

Maybe it is time for a poll;

Flake Only
Frozen Only (Store or Home Made)
Nori/Seaweed Only
Flake and Frozen
Flake and Nori/Seaweed
Frozen and Nori/Seaweed
Flake, Frozen and Nori/Seaweed

Let me do a search and see if that poll has already been done and if not I will post it up.]
