Do Mandarins get Ich?

I won a beautiful mandarin in the raffle at the meeting on Wednesday. It looks like he's got a white spot on one of his fins.

I read on one web site that "mandarins don't get ich".

Is this the truth? If so, what else could the white spot be? If this could be ich, how do I treat it on a mandarin?

Don, I am no expert, however I dont think that Mandarins can actually get ick. They have a protective slime that covers their bodies, and keeps them safe from most predators as well as the parasite ick. I have seen white spots on mine, however quickly realized that is was sand stuck to his body. Do you think it could be sand?

I have always heard that they will not normally get Ich but they can. The slimey coating on the bodies make it hard to host butwhen really stressed and/or not healthy the coating can become comprimised and they can in fact contract the parisite.

Just from my reading.
