do corals of a feather flock together?

ok so I just got this hammer coral from the LFS and while I like it, I wish it was bigger. Is it possible for me to buy other hammer frags and small colonies and put them all together?

I think I read somwhere that you can't put a frogspawn and a hammer together becasue they will sting each other but that you can put hammers from completly different colonies together. is this true?

thanks

You could try it for a day or two and move them if you need to. If they do sting each other, it shouldn't kill one of the colonies right away.

I have two hammer corals about 5 or 6 inches apart and during the day when they are fully inflated they are close enough to touch each other and I've not had any problems, although I think they are from the same parent colony.

Heather, I have a hammer and a frogspawn that touch daily, and I don't see any issues _so far_. I don't know if mine is the exception, or if they'd grow faster if they were apart.. just my experience.

i have had a frogspawn and a hammer near each other for months, and they haven't stung each other yet.. I do try to keep the about six inches apart tho.. in-other-words I haven't let them try it. They do keep getting bigger and I wonder about it some.

When I worked for Aquarium Enviroments we would put together tanks for customers all the time and place hammer frags together all the time with no problem. And yes we maintained these tanks so we did see the results over time. ...................In fact they often grew better together almost like one would not let the other become the larger coral.

Not the same coral, but I have a RBTA and a pink tip BTA right next to eachother rubbing together daily. Never have done a thing to eachother.

Orca it's funny you say that, because my hammer and froggie are always the same size, although they didn't start that way. Now they match each other polyp for polyp, as they grow.
