diy cone skimmer?

Well I dont know if these skimmers are more hype than good but I was thinking of using an erlenmeyer flask to make one. You can get a 2000mL polypropolene one for around 20-40 bucks cut the bottom off then extend it with pvc. The 2000mL is just under 7" diameter at the bottom and around a foot high. The other option is to buy a glass version that is 4000mL or 5000mL. A guy at work has one and its around 10" diameter and well over a foot high. But that would require uniseals and drilling holes not knowing if it will shatter. Plus they are very expensive but less than a skimmer would cost. Just in case you dont know what a erlenmeyer flask is (I didnt know its name until today) heres a pic. I am looking for opinions on the actuall performance of cone skimmers and what you think the feasibility of this is.

Here's a much cheaper cone skimmer that's coming out (before you click on this , keep in mind that this is a joke, so don't freak out) http://www.i-techskimmers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=31

hey why not. but i dont know if i'm willing to go that far redneck/cheepo. Seems like it would work though. Same concept just from SE Oklahoma

That skimmer rocks!! I can see two guys drinking coors and listening to Freebird hi-five'n each other, talking about how much it rocks!!

But seriously, i was thinking about the same thing after seeing a acrylic vase, i was also wondering if i could "throw" something together!! Nazrac, so far you have had some really need DIY, i cant wait to see what comes out of this!

yes I do plan on @ least trying it. I am a pretty avid diy'er . Everything to my tank is pretty much Diy except the glass. Seems feasible just need to find a good source. Plus if these skimmers aren't much better what's it worth. So far I have gone thru w/all my DIY projects.
