DIY Bubble Algae remover

I made a DIY Bubble Algae Remover:

Take a piece of 1/4" PVC tubing about three or four feet long depending how deep your tank is. Then Superglue a large needle to one end. Cut a small piece of 1/2" airline tubing, or plastic hose about 2" long. Slip the plastic hose over the tip of the Turkey baster. Then slip the 1/4" PVC tubing into the 1/2" plastic hose. Or you can just cut the tip off the end of a Turkey baster so the tubing fits inside it, but the plastic hose fits perfectly and doesn't leak.

Now find your Bubble algae. Make sure you squeeze all the water out of the baster before you prick the bubble. Release your grip on the bulb and the baster will suck all the juice up into the tube. You can use the needle to pick at the burst sack to dig it out of the rock then suck it up also.

Just be careful not to harpoon your fish.

well you could...... but if your tank is too tall to really get into and you dont want to stick your hands in there the long pvc pipe works great for keeping your hands dry.....atleast for a while  ubtill you find that one you have to reach for

Thanks for your invention Sumpdiver , I wish i had the quiality problem of not being able to reach the bottom of my tank , sounds like a nice setup.

This also makes a handy tool for digging out the remains of dead aptasia after nuking them with Joe's Juice. Just pick them loose and suck them up. Yeah, the syringe and needle would work great, but you'd need a needle about three feet long.

I did try attaching a syringe to the PVC tube, but it takes two hands to operate. The turkey baster is a one hander, you can use the free hand to guide the tube and pick and dig. The only thing that would improve my little gadget would be a bigger squeeze bulb. Then you could pick/suck several at once before having to pull the tube out to drain the juice.
