Diy auto waste collector

[I would say this one is better than any others when come to cleaning or dumping the waste, it takes only few seconds to unlatch the lid, cost around $10-$15.
80oz acrylic container $7.99 at Walmart
10oz silicon tube $2 Walmart brand
Fittings, you probably already got some,
6-pack pingpong ball $1.28 Walmart
Exoxy $2, optional.
Good luck!!!

[Very Nice Ken. I'm definately going to build one if I can find a larger jar. One question, doesn't the elbow attached to the ping pong ball go to the air intake on the skimmer? That way when full it shuts off the bubbles?

When you say carbon cup, what do you mean?

Add a valve and quick disconect to the waste line, and this thing woulc be super easy to dump.]

[In order to use auto waste collector, the skimmer must be air tight, only hole on it is the one that drains waste from skimmer cup to collector, when waste touches bottom of the clear cap, air will push the ball up, this will shut down (or at least reduce) air coming from intake valve (venturi, beckett) thus reduce the bubble rate, prevent overflowing.
Carbon cup is for filtering that nasty smell.]

[Very nice. I wonder if it would work with my skimmer.]

[SamIam, here is one I made from a kitty litter container. It holds around 2 gallons.

[I saw the same waster collector in an very expensive European style skimmer its good to know it can be made very cheaply. Thanks for the great idea one that I will surely try this weekend.]

[If you want a really big one you can use a 5 gallon salt bucket and lid. Go to Home Depot and buy a toilet bowel flapper and mount it through the lid so that it is situated upside down. Drilla hole for the skimmer inlet and there you go.]

[hmm, I guess I don't understand why you need something like this? Doesn't the skimmer cup serve the same purpose? Sorry I'm a lost noob!!

:)]

[When you have a high performance skimmer you could be emptying the cup every 2 hours. This way you can wait a day or so and not interupt skimming and not deal with skimmer maintenance all day.]

[Besides what David said, if you have skimmer that sits outside of the sump you had better have a collection cup that shuts down the air to the skimmer when it gets full. Sometimes the skimmer can start really overflowing when certain things get in the tank and one outside of the sump would be overflowing all over the floor.]
