Distance of lights above water?

Hey guys I'm in the process of building a hood and I'm not sure how far above the water I should put my lights.

I'm going to go with the following retrofit kit in the hood

or maybe thinking about getting the one a step up

but I'm kinda afraid that the one with the IceCap 660 might produce to much heat. Guess I should also mention that I have a 37 gallon tall tank with a 10 gallon sump below it.

So what would you guys recommend?

links don't work, but the greater the distance off the water the less heat will get transferred to the water. i have three halides over my 180, about 15" off the water, and the temp stays around 80-81 and my apt is about 78-80 during the day (wife insists upon cranking the temp up to cut down on electric bill).

but if you need the lights to be closer, just put a fan into your hood and you should be fine. you might get some evap, but you'll just have to top off.
