Disappearing Zoa's

Hello, I received these from anther member who had PC lights. They have slwoly been disappearing over the past few months. I did a FW dip and these came out. Any idea wha they are? They are 1/4" long at the most.

They actually look like big amphipods, but seriously if they were disappearing. I'd say you probably had zoa eating nudibranches. Hopefully you got them all and keep an eye on all your other zoas in case they moved elsewhere.

I did a FW dip on my pink lemonade frag and killed it . I think that's why your meant to dip it in iodine. Live and learn.

G'luck with the remaining zoas

Thank you for posting a picture, you have no idea how much it helps identifying the problem...

1. the pictures are amphipods like Jaguar said.
2. FW dip really doesn't do a whole lot
3. the problem might be the change in environment. PC lights are very weak and I don't know what lighting they are in right now. If you also have pc lighting, then it could be that these palys are not getting enough lights and they're withering away. If you have lights stronger than PC and they're exposed to a huge change all of a sudden, then they could bleach out, which looks like it in the picture.
4. the short tentacles could mean a couple of things, the first thing I can think of is water flow. the next thing is Nudis eating them.
5. Overall, IMHO, I think the water condition is just not right for those palys, and as far as how to fix it... well, trial and error I suppose.
6. you can still check for preditors by doing dips: http://www.dfwmas.org/Forums/viewtopic.php?t=30746

I have T5 lights that are admittedly in need of replacing. However the bird's nest, flavia, armor of god zoas, kryptonite candy cane, xenia, devil's hand leather, green pallys, blue pally's, red encrusting monti and green monti's are all thriving. I say that and now that I look a bit more closely the xenia are whiter than normal. Ordering new lights now...

well, it's not necessarily that your lights are not strong enough as much as the change in the lighting and the zoas may not be adjusting well to the sudden change...
but still, do the dips first and see...

I think I failed to mention that these zoa's have been in my tank since November... I jsut recently noticed that they were disappearing when I came across an old picture of them. They have been sickly since I got them, but now there are alot fewer of them.

Some zoas go through a die-off periodically. I have some purples that are receding as well, but they always resurge 2 months later. The ony other time I have had zoas slowly vanish like that was when my salinity hit 1.027 (thought i was topping off with RO/DI, but wasn't!), and a slow return down to 1.024 over 2 weeks did the trick.

I will try and get a new picture tomorrow. I changed lights, but the zoas didn't repsond much. I have started dosing iodine the past 6 weeks and in the past 3 weeks the zoas have really responded well.
