DIP/QT YOUR ZOAS!

I found zoa eating nudibranchs. I have sucked off 30+ of these guy in 48 hours. My zoas are looking better but I know they will be back with vengeance. Michelle told me to pull and dip. My zoas are everywhere and connected to big rock. I am going to gamble on the rumor that a 6 line wrasses help. Wish me luck.

I JUST WANTED TO WARN OTHERS TO MY MISTAKE.

I had every parasite, pods, and frozen food for my leopard to eat and it still didn't make it. Green Coris wrasse.... I will look into it as well.

Thanks

Yuki

Yellow Coris works well as do the mystery wrasses.

As far as dipping. You have several options, my preferred method now as a preventative is a 20 min soak in Potassium Permanganate. Its the only thing that kills the eggs.

You should do your dip every 10 days for a couple of months to insure you get rid of them if you use anything else, such as RO/DI or TMPCC etc. They will lay eggs everywhere, rock, glass, sand etc so you have to be persistent.

What type of potassium do you use?"]

Potassium Permanganate from Sears.. I ordered a bunch about 6 months back. You can have them order it for you in the garden/tool departement in 6oz bottles. That will last you years as it takes very little.

Here is a link on how its done.

The Flatworm Exit in triple strength is supposed to work on the nudis but won't touch the eggs.

I have not seen one for a while but, the flatworm exit did not have the same effect that had been documented in other cases. I dosed more than 4x the regular dose and watched one pretty much go about his business.

So i am currently ahving this problem..

I got a really nice rock of zoas, and it was ok at lfs, brought it home it quickly quit opening, and then other zoas stopped opening, and now i have had some that i have had for months just melt away basically.

my lps, rics, and other softies are completely uneffected.
i have done a few iodine/freshwater dips, but to no avail.

so i should use the potassium dip idea?

-sorry Yuki to jack your thread, but it was extremely helpful and comforting, i am about to tears about it, i am a collector and have some nice zoas, hoping i can fix this issue before i lose anymore zoas.-

Please post the following...

What is your temperature range morning and night.
What is your pH range morning and night. Is this via test or probe?
What are your Alk, Ca, Mg levels.
What is your salinity. Do you use a refractometer or a swing arm?

When you put the zoanthids into the tank, describe or provide photos, of what the process of dying is like. Do they close up? Do they pinch? Do they curl up or over like a mushroom? Do they discolor? Do they just disappear over night? etc... the process of how they go is important.

Do you dose any additives? If so, which ones and how much?

Bought some zoas early this week, and did freshwater dip them. They have not opened and in fragging a different rock tonight noticed a nudi. I only have some loguls and hydrogen peroxide so I used that to "re-dip" the new zoas. Wow, nudis, spiders, etc. all came off. Ugh........I guess for now I will have to use loguls and hyrogen perixode until I can order Dave's stuff from Sears. So tomorrow put some iodine and hyrogen perixode in a container and dip all my zoas? Freshwater or saltwater? How long after the dip will they stay closed?
