Diamond goby + southdown = crap - This fish is a mess!

[Does anyone know I might be able to catch a diamond goby? Are there any predator fish to diamond goby's?

He is a good fish just not for my tank..... Everytime I want to look at my tank he comes out and stir's a sand storm.]

[your tank is a 20 gallon right? You should be able to catch him. I had a dragon goby that would pick up a ton of sand, swim to the top of the tank, and then sift it..leaving a white coating of sand all over my rocks and corals.]

[I do have a 20L, but this fish is in my 75. And yes the sand sifting in front of the power head is really getting on my nerves... :cussing:]

[I had a six spot goby that made a mess of my tank. I guess he ate himself out of house and home. He kept getting thinner and thinner and I haven't seen him in about a month. I guess the crabs got a good meal. He kept the sandbed nice and clean, but you couldn't tell for the sandstorm!]

[I put a goby into a reef tank with sand and after about a month of watching the sand storm I got tired of him. I used a fish trap and caught him after just a couple of hours.]

[Acually Richard I have another goby in my sump that was in there when I bought the tank. You can come by anytime and I will let you have him.]

[This whole week my tank has looked great (clear) and I couldn't figure out why so I started checking things out. And to my suprise I found my Diamond Goby in my overflow! :D I was so happy!

So, today while getting him out he freakin jumped out of the net back in to the tank! :cussing: :cussing: :cussing:

Instantly he went to the bottom and started to stir up huge amounts of sand! I'm so freakin pissed! I was trying to be a good guy and get him out and give him to someone and now he has crossed the line!

I watched a show yesterday on Discovery about the ocean and it showed a type of conch that will eat goby's maybe I can buy one.

:stare:]

[well i got lucky, I had one then added southdown and the tank wasnt ever clear I had to take ALL The LR out and then I i left the net in the tank went to the bathroom and with my luck he'd swam into the net and i just lifted it up and cought him! But he was starving so it was easier...]

[in defence of the gobys, I have one in both tanks and they really keep the sand loose and clean. They will make sand storms for a while but is could be caused by all the crap in the sand . It will stop and you will end up with a nice sand bed. Both of mine will eat other fish food with the other fish, and seem to be happy...George]

[I think your right George about the sifting, but I think because of the southdown being so light it stays in the water column longer. I could really tell a difference in clarity the 2 days he was in the overflow.

I have a couple of sand sifting starfish also, so at the present time I do have clean and very bright white sand.]

[I feel your pain. I bought a wee little engineer goby a few months back, thinking he wouldn't be too much of a nuisance. Today, he is over 6 inches long and buries everything that gets near his den. Maybe I can snare the bugger with a fish trap, I would sure hate to take out all of my LR just to catch him.]
