[What diamater of pvc do I need to use for the fuge to the main tank? And do I use the same for the over flow to the fuge. I will be using a Rio 1700 and a 900 ghp over flow. Thanks for the help.]

[Hmm well i went to reefcentral and at 4" head pressure it shows that your only going to pump back a little more than 332 GPH to the display with the Rio 1700 and thats with 1.25" PVC. Maybe the sump Gods will Chime in on this one. I know that If your Overflow is going to drain 990 gph and your pumps only going to return 332+ GPH theres a problem. The pump seems to be on the weak side and wont be able to return what the overflows draining, unless you put a ball valve in there to regulate the overflows input to the sump/fuge.Bigger pump maybe?]

The pump won't be able to return what the overflow 'could' drain. The overflow will only take in what the pump puts out. It will work, but you are losing out on a lot of circulation capacity by not getting as close as you can (under of course) to the amount you could drain.

Flexible hose may be better for the return. You get less head pressure than when you use PVC with 90 and 45 degree turns.]

[And yet, all you need is 3 to 5 times the tank volume running through your sump. Anything faster leads to microbubble issues.

You can use small plumbing for a refugium drain. I used 1/2" at one point, but it was too small. I would say that 1" would be good if it is draining via gravity into the display (or return section of the sump).]

[The fuge will be directly below the DT. So would a 1" flex hose work ok if I put a ball valve inline from the DT to the fuge? The fuge is about 4.5 to 5 feet below the DT.]

[I hope you are going to copy my Model A sump, or you will have a real nightmare of microbubbles.

I used 1" flex tubing. Get the tinted kind to avoid algae issues.]
