Declaring war!

I have a terrorist in my tank! No fish in the tank yet but several corals including one large frogspawn with three large heads joined together by a single stalk. This makes it easy to find a hole in the rock to put the stalk in.

However, no matter where I put it, at night, some critter I have never seen, finds it and pushes it out! So in the morning the poor FS is laying upside down or sideways which is going to kill it if this keeps up.

In my desparation, last night I decided to go ahead and super glue the stalk in there. I even glued it so it didn't plug up the hole but was outside it a bit. This morning is had been broken loose from the rock and moved again!

I've never even seen anything in the tank expect the small stuff and bristle worms. I did see some tracks about and inch and a half across one time in the sand, but I have no clue what it was. I'm thinking a crab of some sort maybe.

It's time to get serious... I'm gonna get some epoxy putty and put it where I want it for good!

Could possibly be an urchin too... My tank had been up 3+ years before I found my hitchhiker 4+ inch Urchin...

If possible, stay up late (Easier for some of us than others, I understand) and check the tank out, preferably with a red-light flashlight to see what you shall see...

Question number one; If you place the stalk into the whole, can you look underneat the rock to see it stick though? If so, you have two solutions,

1) Drill a small hole thru the base, insert a zip tie thru the bottom and either secure it or possibly use the tie as a stop from the Euphelia from popping out of the hole. (a little more labor intensive)

OR

2) Go to home depot, buy the two part stick epoxy (water safe) I believe it is green in color; stick the coral into the hole and fix the epoxy at the base of the stalk onto the rock and let it cure. This can all be done in the water safely without risk to your tank. Problem solved. The epoxy is much stronger than superglue and will cure in place in 5-10 minutes and will solidify to a rock consistency over 12-24 hours.

Not a war my friend; only a little battle. Could be a crab living in your rocks.

My turbo snails and hermit crabs oocassionally push my new/small coral pieces (simply sitting on small frag stones) off my rock. COuld be as simple as that.

I'm ALWAYS up late it seems anymore. I keep trying to catch something but nothing yet. Whatever it is I can't wait to find it or accidentally see it so I know what I'm dealing with.

I think the putty idea should solve matters though. I am concerned about having an anemone in the future and not being able to move corals out of its way if they are permanently attached.

Oh well,

Thanks

don't worry probably one of these

someone found one 6' long in there pvc pipe, read about it on reefcentral, pics and all

just kidding, most likely a hermit or snail. If you have a conch they get to be real "bulls in china cabinets" a night

Maybe it's a blue ring octopus? Just teasing... (Note: someone posted about a story where a guy claimed he had a blue ring in his tank for years and never knew it)

That is kinda freaky. Probably is some sort of hitchhicking crab or urchin.
