DC8 Users....

Anyone ever have a single plug get 'stuck'?? I have one plug that swtiches on just fine, but then won't shut off on a routine basis. I had to manually cut it off a few times and tonight it just won't go off. I moved the light to another plug on the brick but was curious if anyone has run into this before?

What light are you trying to plug into it?

The DC8 doesn't have relays controlling all (or any?) of the outlets, they shut off outlets by reducing the line voltage. Thus some extremely low voltage appliances won't shut off correctly.

That's why I went with DC4's, all of the outlets on them are relay-controlled. :) I don't remember, but I think one or two of them might be relay controlled on the DC8. I've never had any of the (relays) on the DC4's stick. When they are supposed to shut off, I can hear the "click" noise.

Dave,

On newer style DC8's (has a resettable fuse) plug's 4 & 8 should not be used with high current draw items. Sometimes a good wack can "unstick" a sticky relay in these. I have also had success with unplugging and plugging the DC8 back in(not my favorite fix) which gives it a hard reset. If it doesn't reset then you would either send it in or live with one less socket.

Cheers,

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. Its been working fine for about a year now, maybe all that dust from the tiling got in there and jammed it up.

Have you seen any wattage numbers on these? My 1000W heater is on a DC4HD, all the lighting is via DC8.

What outlet # are you using that gets stuck? I can test on my two DC8's to see if similar type thing is common.

I'll move my T5's to outlet 8 and see how it goes for a week. I might try T5's on one, and MH on the other DC8 I have. I'll let you know if I see any similar problems. My DC8's are 1-2 years old.

Dave,

The outlets can handle 6 amps each but the totall sum of all the current draw needs to be less than 15 Amps. The had issues on older units where low powered pumps like aqualifters would turn on but not be able to turn off. They changed the units by changing outlets 4 and 8 to old style mechanical relays instead of the solid state relay's like the remaining outlets. Slots 4 and 8 can handle higher current items but, seem to be more prone to sticking as they age, more so with high current draw items plugged into them....at least mine seems that way. Make sure you give it a nice stern whack....it works.

Cheers,

i have had that problem with my acjr doc 8, i have cheeked the program and its right but every once in a while my lights wont turn off at night

Knocked it a bit today... so we shall see. I have 3 660's on this one and I put my 3 MH's on another DC8, so I should be under that wattage/amps number on both of them. Currently that's all I am running on both DC8's at this time. Each DC8 is plugged into a separate independent circuit.

What plug position does it or is it random?

Well my lights did go off last night on time. I have two T5's, 48" on port 8 of the DC8. I'll check when I get home to make sure they came on, but your problem was going off so don't expect an issue.

Dave, i have a dc8 that is sitting in my fish room you can use if you want until you get one that works correctly (assuming yours does not come to its senses). Just let me know, no hurries.

Actually thought about selling it today until i read your thread

I was cleaning out the fish room and realized i had 5 of them and none have ever given me the fritz and this is my back up.......maybe i should hold on to it after all. Its yours to use if needed.

Hehe... I think its good... its not jammed back up again since then. IF you do sell it though and its one of the newer models with the external fuse, let me know what you want for it as I am going to need another strip I think.

it is the newer model with the fuse and i was going to post it for a bill, but i decided i would keep it....thanks for opening my eyes!

would have paid a bill for it :) Its always nice to have one of everything as a backup... pumps included *cough hint*.

it seems as i have learned that over the years. i have 2 barracudas, two dart seals, one barracuda seals and a new snapper as well. i have more stuff than a mexican flea market (i can say that because i am vato all the way).

If i sell my frag system, i will let you know because i will have 2 extra dc8s as well. maybe at that time i can trade for some of that stuff that comes from davey jones locker in your tank!
