Dark red stuff - What is it?

[I have a dark red substance forming over the bottom of my tank. Does anyone know what it might be??]

[sounds like cyano aka red slime. How is your water? Water flow, nitrates, and phosphates are key factors when it comes to red slime.]

[water flow is good. Ive got 2 powerheads in a 29 gal. Nitrates WERE high but i did a 5 gal water change. I might do another tomorrow. Right now they are like 15. How do you measure phosphates??]

[you will probablly have to go to a lfs to have that tested....is the red slime growing all over, or just in certain spots? Dead spots with no current can occur even when you think you have enough water flow. A lot of time it takes some adjusting of your powerheads to get them just right. You may also want to try "chemi-clean" or "red slime remover."

Where are you getting your water? Is it RODI?]

amount of time my lights are on and increased the water flow. What else can i do?? Its getting worse. WIll it kill corals or fish???]
