Dangers of changing salts?

Is there a danger to changing the salt brand you use? I have been using water from my LFS and am about to set up my own RO/DI unit. Just curious if I risk anything bad happening by doing such thing.

I would test your current water parameters and then test what your new salt water parameters are to see if you'll possibly shock the system with a big pH or Alk swing.

I've used 3 different brands now trying to find out what likes me. I mean, what I like.
As long as you take efforts to reasonably match the salinity, PH, and temp, or make smaller changes over time I don't see it as a problem.

I have yet to kill anything that I could attribute to a water change or top off.

No real dangers, but you will want to test each one to find out what you need to balance out with your water changes. Its a pretty good idea to test your change water when you try a new brand to see what the alk, ca and mg is coming in at out of the box so you can boost it if needed. Some salts are higher in alk and ca than others, so if you don't know this going in you can get caught short or end up dosing too much if your on a regular dosing regime.

If you are still concerned, you can do smaller more frequent changes to sneak up on your reef before they know what's going on, or mix the new with the old type 50/50 for the next few changes.

-you could also find out what brand the store was using- and if it seems good
-hust buy it to make your water out of- and there wont be "ANY" issues then...
