Cycling new tank... cyano carpet time!

I've set up a new tank in the office. I still dont know exactly what I am going to do with it. Every time I do a water change on my tank at home, I put the dirty water in the new tank. I figure this is helping my cycle go faster as well.

Last time, I even sucked up some cyanobacteria, and it is now in the bottom of the new tank. It has finally started to grow a bit. That means I am getting there, right?

My goal is to make a cyano carpet. Then I will add the cleaning crew. How does this sound?

Heh! Hundreds, if not thousands of threads on how to get rid of cyano, and you are attempting to grow it. Gotta love it!

ive got three cerith snail hitchhikers (Misty's kids, or a generation or two down from them) that are having fun cleaning the place...

Are you referring to green hair algae or cyanobacterium?
Most try to get rid of both, but cyano can be bad news, and spreads like crazy with enough light and nutrient?!

I was at the University the other night, hanging out with some of the Bio folks, and some of them were completely some initial research on cyano. They had found that this stuff can be so resilient, that even if it is light shocked, it can adjust and thrive (something to do with a particular gene they carry, I believe)…!!!
