cyano bacteria

Does anyone know how to get rid of red cyano bacteria in a smaller tank. My tank is 25 gallons, I prefer a creature then chemical but either will work.

Search the threads for more info...there are tons.

Quick synopsis...

1. Improve flow, number and position of pumps/powerheads.
2. Limit nutrient buildup - feed less, skim heavy, water changes
3. I've heard cerith snails eat it but not enough to make a dent in a bloom.
4. Turn the lights out.
5. Chemiclean- following the directions of course.

How old is your tank? This may be just part of the new tank cycle.

If you can get the liquid version of Chemi-clean. It works 100000000000% better than the powder.

You could always do what I did...

I was just about to go on my honeymoon and I forgot to turn my ReefKeeper timers back on. My lights were off for a total of 10 days. Oops. Long story short ALL of my cyano was gone, and I only lost 2 pieces of SPS. Everything else was fine.

You could go lights out for 3-4 days and see if that has an impact. Every other method I tried before that did not work.

A 25 gallon tank is at the upper end of the nano category. There are plenty of places that will sell you something to get rid of cyano, but the two methods to ELIMINATE it are 1) Increased water changes and 2) better flow throughout the tank. You did not post a pic of how the tank is setup, but you could improve flow simply by adjusting rock, or adding a power head. With nano tanks, water changes are the best method to great water quality.
