DIY Hang on Back refugium.

15.5 x 18.0 x 4.0 made from 1/4 acrylic.

Allied Plastic in Dallas made this design for $45 in materials and $40 in labor to put it together for a custom HOB.

I'm very pleased with the results. I'll post up some photos soon.

Allied Plastics make it very easy to deal with them. It took about two weeks to get my custom HOB project, which was fine for my schedule.

Here's the number: (214) 350-3990

Very good people, I'd use them again for sure.

AND! They also stock the black eggcrate for about $13 for a 2'x4' sheet.

That rocks. I love these things. I have two so far, but just not enough room to fit a regular 4" CPR onto the back of my Neo 90.

I like having the mangroves, chaeto, and pods right within reach over the tank. If I want pods in the main display and I can just swish the chaeto around by hand and poof, food for everyone.

I have a small tank, a 37 bow. It is just 30" long x 15"wide x 18" tall. So none of the pre-built stuff really fits very well. A custom job really was my only option.

The only thing that I've found is that you will need a valve to control the amount of water being returned to the tank, so that you can adjust the flow through the refugium.

I'm running this one with a 240, but with the valve about 1/2 way closed.

A few people have asked about the size of my u-tubes. Here's a few photos

This is my inlet U-Tube, it is 1" ML INTAKE TUBE W/STR MAGNUMS.

I got mine at Dallas North in the used area for about $5, new on Amazon for about $10.

This is my return U-tube, it is a U-Tube with Directional Return 1/2".
Again got mine at Dallas North in the used area for about $5, new on Amazon for about $6

I used some clear tubing from Lowes to connect the return U-tube to my pump. I found that on my tank setup, I had to add about 4" of tubing to the intake U-tube.
