So I final decided to buy a curve 9 for my 120 gal tank and after I bought it saw on seasides dealers website, that the new and improved sp4000 pump is louder then the old one. ( I guess they meant to say new and cheaper). So after a 3 days of having it I have spent hours trying to figure out the noise issue with the skimmer. It was so loud that my bro would text me to see if I was able to find the jet motor in the wall, what made it worse is that my tank is a pass through from the living room to the master bedroom. Wife was mad b/c we have 2 month old baby boy. But after trying to rig a different impeller, to trying different size washer (spacers) with no luck, the easiest fix came to my mind. I took the pump bracket off and cut a silicone hot pad about 1/8 thick and put it under the pump bracket. Screwed the pump and the bracket back down, so I had the bottom of the skimmer then the pad with screw holes cut out, then the pump bracket with the pump. It made the biggest difference, I can not tell you how good I'm going to sleep tonight for a few hours before the baby wakes us up. So over all the skimmer is built decent, what I don't understand is that they made the skimmer curved to smooth out the bubble travel which it dose until it hits the neck b/c it is 1/4 in. smaller then the body. As of today I would repurchase it, but will keep this updated if anything changes.
