curious problem...

Ok,

I have developed a somewhat unsettling green hair algae issue on my 120.

I have been monitoring water params very closely since I am planning on beginning to restock it shortly.

The following are water params

CALC - 390 (just buffered so it's coming up)
ALK - 9.0DkH
MAG - 1330
PH - 8.3
TEMP - 79
PHOS - 0
AMM - 0
NITRATE - 20

Now, I know my nitrates are up just a bit, but I have run with nitrates much higher without issue. Generally a hair algae problem is due to phosphates but I am topping off and doing water changes with fresh from the RODI water, that's not been stored so any leeching is not possible.

What else generally causes hair algae issues ? Ambient natural light ? Temp swing ?

Thanks

If you transferred a bunch of live rock I'm sure you had lots of die off and it could be leaching out. I would advise "cooking" the live rock if you didn't already.

Testing at zero phosphates doesn't mean there aren't phosphates being introduced into the water. It just means that as quickly as it's being introduced, it's being taken up.

Running any kind of phosphate absorbing media?

I just bought some Kent Power•Phos . . .

Say's it's good for 90-days.

I am still debating the benefit of the Phosban-150, so I just dumped the Power•Phos into a media bag and hung it in the drain area of my sump.
